League Overview
The formal name of the organization is Geneseo Finger Lakes Youth Hockey (GFLYH). We are also called Geneseo Youth Hockey (GYH) or Livingston Blues.
This organization is governed by the rules of USA hockey, New York State Amateur Hockey Association, the West Section of NYSAHA, Western New York Amateur Hockey League and Empire Amateur Hockey Association.
Eligibility to participate in Geneseo/Finger Lakes Youth Hockey is not determined by sex, race, creed or color. Geneseo Finger Lakes Youth Hockey does not discriminate against any person based upon sex, race, creed or color.
The purpose of Geneseo Youth Hockey / Livingston Blues
- To promote youth hockey in accordance with USA Hockey policy.
- To instill in the area youth, boys and girls, the necessary attitudes for team spirit and sportsmanship through success and cooperative efforts.
- To foster safety, fairness and fun.
Geneseo Youth Hockey / Livingston Blues is currently providing teams at the following leagues and age classification.
Beginner/Learn to Skate Age 3-8
Initiation Program/IP Age 5-8
(6U aged players in IP may elect to participate in Cross Ice Jamborees at various rinks)
Empire Amateur Hockey Conference - Red/White/Blue divisions
8U/Mite 8 and under
10U/Squirt 10 and under
12U/Peewee 12 and under
14U/Bantam 14 and under
18U/Midget 18 and under
Western New York Amateur Hockey Association (Travel) - Tier III
10U/Squirt 10 and under
12U/Peewee 12 and under
14U/Bantam 14 and under
16U&18U/Midget 16 and under & 18 and under (Split Season)
Beginner/Learn to Skate Program
This program is open to skaters 3-8 years of age and older with few or no skating skills. Beginners will typically skate every Saturday for approximately 20 ice hours. We are equipped to provide you with everything you will need to teach your daughter or son with the exception of their skates. We offer a beginner equipment package including a helmet, shin/knee pads, elbow pads and gloves for your use through out the season at no charge. We will also provide a jersey. The jersey are yours to keep. The Beginner package is a loaner and MUST be returned.
Initiation Program/IP
This program is open to skaters 5 years of age and older, whose basic skills are developed enough to learn team skills. Initiation program will typically skate twice a week for approximately 40 ice hours. We will follow USA hockey’s Initiation (Cross Ice) Program as an instructional guide. Starting in November, teams may play in 4-6 Cross Ice Jamborees (small area scrimmages) at various hockey rinks in the Rochester area.
EAHC / Empire Division
Geneseo Youth Hockey/ Livingston Blues plays in the Empire Amateur Hockey Conference against similar youth hockey organizations. EAHC is comprised of teams from Canandaigua Youth Hockey, Batavia Ramparts, Geneseo Youth Hockey, Monroe County Youth Hockey, Rochester Jr Amerks Youth Hockey, Tri-County Youth Hockey, Rochester Youth Hockey, Edge Girls and Webster Youth Hockey. Away games will be played at the ice rink utilized by these organizations. Practice and home games are scheduled primarily at SUNY Geneseo Ice arena, but sometimes will be scheduled at other arenas depending on ice availability and time of year. Teams will be placed into Red, White or Blue divisions to provide an appropriate level of competition. Team selection will be held in April to divide players into the appropriate division.
8U/Mite
Open to skaters 8 years of age or under. Teams will compete in the Empire League. Mites typically play 14 EAHC 1/2 ice games, 7 home and 7 away. There is a pre Season Jamboree in late September for team placement. Practices are generally during the week and games are typically scheduled on the weekend. Checking and slap shots are not allowed. To be placed on a team, all skaters must attend on–ice placement evaluations.
10U/Squirt
Open to skaters 10 years of age or under. Teams will compete in the Empire League. Squirts typically play 16 EAHC games, 8 home and 8 away, with playoffs following the end of regular season. Practices are generally during the week and games are typically scheduled on the weekend. Checking is not allowed. To be placed on a team, all skaters must attend on–ice placement evaluations.
12U/Peewee
Open to skaters 12 years of age or under. Teams will compete in the Empire League. Peewees typically play 16 EAHC games, 8 home and 8 away, with playoffs following the end of regular season. Practices are generally during the week and games are typically scheduled on the weekend. Checking is not allowed. To be placed on a team, all skaters must attend on–ice placement evaluations.
14U/Bantam
Open to skaters 14 years of age or under. Teams will compete in the Empire League. Bantams typically play 18 EAHC games, 9 home and 9 away, with playoffs following the end of regular season. Practices are generally during the week and games are typically scheduled on the weekend. Checking is introduced at this level. To be placed on a team, all skaters must attend on–ice placement evaluations.
18U/Midget
Open to skaters 18 years of age or under. Teams will compete in the Empire League. Midgets typically play 20 EAHC games, 10 home and 10 away, with playoffs following the end of regular season. Practices are generally during the week and games are typically scheduled on the weekend. To be placed on a team, all skaters must attend on–ice placement evaluations.
Travel / WYNAHL
Tier III
Geneseo Youth Hockey / Livingston Blues Travel program plays in the Western New York Amateur Hockey Association at a Tier III level against similar youth hockey organizations across western New York. This is our most competitive level of play for skaters age 18 and under. Players will be selected for these teams on the basis of evaluations and competitive tryouts held in April following the conclusion of each season. Away games will be played at the ice rink utilized by the away organizations. Practice and home games are scheduled primarily at SUNY Geneseo Ice arena, but sometimes will be scheduled at other Rochester arenas depending on ice availability and time of the year. Teams will be major, minor or mixed (which is an age classification) and all teams will be at a Tier III level. 12U & Above Teams will have the option to play for a State Tournament, which is held in the spring. Only the team with the best record will be allowed to compete in the State Tournament.
10U/Squirt, 12U/Peewee, 14U/Bantam, 16U & 18U/Midget
Our teams are generally in the mixed division, Tier III.
Teams who declare tournament bound status and have the best record in their respective sections may have the chance to compete in a state tournament. The teams from each division; west, central, north and east will be invited to compete.
